Wave is a popular choice for very small businesses in the United States and Canada: sole traders, handymen, property maintenance crews and small cleaning or landscaping companies. It covers invoicing, receipts, bills and simple bookkeeping. Owners pick it because it is simple, and because they would rather spend their time on the job than in software.
Simple does not always mean quick. Working out whether the rental property contracts are worth renewing still means filtering transactions and adding things up. With Agentic CMMS, you can ask an AI agent instead, from your phone in the van, and get an answer from your Wave books in plain language.
What your AI agent can do with Wave
- Check who has not paid. "Which customers have unpaid invoices, and how late are they?" The agent lists them, oldest first.
- Total a category. "What did I spend on materials and tool hire this year?" It adds up the transactions in those categories.
- Find a receipt. "Do I have a receipt for the water heater I bought in March?" The agent searches your receipts by date, vendor and amount.
- Draft an invoice. "Create an invoice for Oakridge Property Management for the gutter clean on three units, $180 each." With write access, the draft is waiting in Wave for you.
- Review a customer. "How much has Oakridge paid us this year, and what did we spend on their jobs?"
- Spot uncategorised spend. "Which transactions this month have no category yet?" Clean them up before tax time.
- Record a bill. "Add a bill from the lumber yard for $420, due in 30 days." The agent records it so you know what is coming up.
Wave with your other systems
- Compare the visits scheduled in Jobber with the invoices in Wave, so every job gets billed.
- Match jobs from Housecall Pro with the receipts for their materials and see what each one really earned.
- Find the quote you emailed a customer in Gmail and check it against the invoice amount in Wave.
- Save a monthly summary of income and costs to a folder in Google Drive for your accountant.
A bookkeeper in your pocket
Most Wave users do their own books. An agent that can read and, if you allow it, write to Wave takes the late-night admin down to a few questions. It also catches the small things that cost a one-person business real money: the invoice you forgot to send, the receipt you never logged, the customer who always pays late. When the business grows and you move to something like FreshBooks, you keep asking the same way.
If you add staff, you decide who may use which tools, each person approves their own agent, and the activity log shows exactly what each agent did.
