> Connect Jira to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI agents to search issues, epics and sprints, and track control system changes and plant software projects.

Jira is where software and engineering teams plan and track their work. In industrial companies, that increasingly includes automation engineers, OT and controls teams, data teams and the people who build MES, SCADA and CMMS improvements. Epics, stories, bugs, sprints, boards and components keep their work organised. But plant managers and maintenance leads, who raise many of those requests, rarely follow Jira, and they ask the same status questions every week.

Agentic CMMS turns Jira into an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and other AI agents. Engineers search issues without writing JQL by hand, and the rest of the plant gets plain-language answers about the changes that affect them.

## What your AI agent can do with Jira

- **Search in plain language.** "Show open bugs in the SCADA project labelled Line 2, created this month." The agent writes the JQL and lists the issues.
- **Follow a sprint.** "What is left in the current sprint for the controls team, and what is blocked?"
- **Track an epic.** "How far along is the PLC upgrade epic for the packaging hall, and which stories are not started?"
- **Raise an issue from the floor.** "Create a bug in the MES project: the batch report shows the wrong operator on night shift since Tuesday." With write access, the agent creates it with the right component.
- **Explain a change.** "What did the last release of the historian interface change, and which issues were in it?"
- **Find who owns what.** "Who is assigned to the alarm rationalisation stories, and which are waiting for review?"
- **Write the change summary.** "Summarise the issues resolved this week in the plant software projects for the operations meeting."

## Jira with your other systems

Engineering work on a plant touches equipment, documents and maintenance. Connect Jira beside those systems and the agent can link code to the shop floor:

- When an [Ignition](/integrations/ignition) screen or tag change is released, list the related Jira issues and the equipment they affect.
- Link the design notes in [Confluence](/integrations/confluence) to each Jira epic, and flag epics with no design page.
- Raise a Jira issue when a [PTC ThingWorx](/integrations/ptc-thingworx) application shows a data fault, with the device and time in the description.
- Match control system changes in Jira with the [IBM Maximo](/integrations/ibm-maximo) work orders that installed them on site, to complete the management-of-change record.

## Management of change for plant software

A change to a PLC, a historian tag or an MES rule can stop a line as surely as a broken bearing. Linking Jira to the rest of your systems gives engineers and operations one view of what changed and why. Owners and admins choose which roles may use each Jira tool, each person approves their own agent, and every call is written to the hash-chained activity log, which supports your change audits.

## Questions and answers

### Can Claude search Jira with JQL for me?

Yes. Describe what you want in plain language and Claude writes and runs the JQL, then summarises the issues it finds.

### Can an AI agent create Jira issues from a plant fault?

With write access and permission from your owners and admins, the agent creates issues in the project you name, with summary, description, components and labels.

### What is the difference between this and the Jira Service Management integration?

This page covers Jira projects, boards and sprints for engineering and project work. Jira Service Management, for service desks and requests, has its own page.
